Jeff Roorda to Formally Announce State Senate Bid on June 27th
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
As many of you are aware, I am in my fourth and final term in the Missouri House of Representatives. Other than the joy of raising my three daughters with my wife Nancy, serving you in the Missouri Legislature has been the single greatest experience of my life. But, Missouri’s term limit laws cap my service in the House at four 2-year terms.
As a result, I filed paperwork with the Missouri Ethics Commission when this term started to explore the possibility of running for State Senate in 2014 when our senator, Ryan McKenna, is term-limited. Over the last several months, I’ve talked to my family, friends and constituents and the encouragement that I’ve received leaves me with only one conclusion: I will run for State Senate in 2014.
The 22nd District has a long tradition of sending individuals to the State Senate that bring moderate, common-sense Jefferson County values to an institution that frankly, is starting to look more and more like Congress where extremism from the left and the right seem to rule the day. I would be honored to carry on the tradition of those who have served before me as the Senator in the 22nd, like Ryan McKenna, Bill McKenna and Jay Nixon, all of whom have strongly encouraged me to run.
I’ve spent my entire adult life in the service of my community, whether it was my time in the Legislature, my career as a police officer, my service with the local fire and ambulance district boards, or my first job as a 911 dispatcher, I have a heart for service and I love my community. I can tell you from my experience in the Capitol, what our community needs in the Senate is a public servant, not another politician looking out for the agenda of well-funded special interest groups.
I’m honored to have the endorsement of virtually every Democratic officeholder in the 22nd District and even some Republican officeholders that think that now is the time to return to good old fashion mainstream thinking. That is not what my announced opponent represents as you can see in a story from this month’s Rock Newspaper.
If you are able, please feel free to join Nancy and I on Thursday June 27th from 4:30 pm to 7 pm at the Chase Club at Fox Chase Apartments in Arnold as we formally kick-off my campaign. Light refreshments will be served.
As I said, it has been an honor to serve you and this community. I ask for your support in continuing that service.
Very truly yours,
